"Trespassers Will Be Shot on Sight"
The big storyline in IWAU right now is that Christian Rose (the top heel in the company) is leading a movement called "Destroy IWAU" and bringing in outside talent to fight the fight. Granted, it's kind of an odd storyline, but it does open the door for IWAU to bring in some great, outside talent and it fits with the "Trespassers...." theme. In a way, considering most of the outside talent they brought in, this show was almost like IWAU vs. 2009-era VIP. Here's what went down:
Scott Parker, Reed Bentley, Jason V & Jimmy Karryt vs. Tony G, Perry Winkle, Blake Reed & AT Brooks
This match was done under elimination rules and was a red hot opener! Everyone in it (even Parker) worked a fast-paced match and the smaller guys in the match all pulled off some impressive, quick moves. Once Blake Reed got into the match, he pretty much destroyed everyone. Parker jumped out of the ring and grabbed a chair and went to hit Blake, but he blocked it and then hit Parker and was DQed. Jason V was the next one out when Perry Winkle hit him with (I think) a swinging DDT type move. Perry was the next out when Reed Bentley hit him with a Fisherman's suplex type move. Parker was the next out when Tony G hit him with a DDT style move. At that point, everything got kind of crazy and somewhere in all of that, AT pinned Reed Bentley. Tony G was taken out and on the outside so the two guy left in the ring were Brooks and Kerryt. Kerryt, by the way, is a new guy that IWAU made promo videos for before he debuted. I'm not sure where he came from, but he's a young guy who seems to be a decent worker. Anyway, Brooks and Kerryt fought hard and Kerryt almost got a pin on Brooks, but Tony broke it up. Brooks then hit Kerryt with a huge jumping legdrop and got the pin. Sure this match was all over the place, but it was a red hot opener!
Nick Brubaker w/Athena vs. Gunner Franks w/Angelus Layne
Wow...I've honestly not seen Brubaker in person since the VIP shows back in 2009. The dude is absolutely jacked up too. Why he hasn't been used in more places and gone farther in the business is way beyond me! Maybe it's because he's a short guy but man, the dude is built like a rock. He came out with some well-built valet by the name of Athena. Franks looked decent and both of them put on a very solid match, however, nothing stood out as being great. It was pretty obvious that at some point, the women would get involved...and they did. Athena got on the ring apron and Layne jumped up there with her and they were arguing. While the ref was trying to get them down, Gunner had Brubaker pinned, but then MsChif ran in and attacked Franks. Brubaker rolled him up and got a quick pin. After the match, MsChif stared down Layne and then others from the back ran in and attacked Franks, but then the "Defend IWAU" crew came in and ran everyone off.
El Maskerado vs. Johnny Bigtime
Well, this is where the show hit it's first snag. I'm not sure who Maskerado was but he was a large, obviously older guy who moved really, really slow. The match was suppose to be him against Cole James, but James wasn't there so they announced that Bigtime (he's the manager guy who kinda looks like a cross between Jackie Fargo and Ian Rotten) was taking his place. I'm not so sure this was even a match because all Maskerado did was push him down....over and over and over and over again. Then, Doomsday (Really big, masked dude) ran in and attacked Maskerado and Bigtime was DQed...but, enough about all that silliness!
Christian Rose vs. Arik Cannon
After the silly stuff, it was time to get to some serious action...and this match delivered the goods, BIG time. Both guys worked a fast-paced, hard-hitting match, as you would expect. But, during the first few moments, Cannon was whipped into the corner and was going to jump over Rose but Rose moved and Cannon twisted his leg. It wasn't a legit injury, but Cannon sold it like a Mega-Millions Lottery jackpot! During the rest of the entire match, Cannon was limping and every time he'd pull off a move, he'd fall to the mat, screaming. There were lots of huge moves and near-falls. The match went back and forth with both guys hitting solid moves. Cannon hit Rose with his "Twist of Fate" style move off the rope and the Glimmering Warlock but Rose kept kicking out. Rose then caught Cannon in a Boston Crab. Cannon was screaming in pain, but got to the ropes. Rose then pulled him back to the center of the ring and sat back on the crab, turning it into an almost "Lion Tamer" type hold. Cannon couldn't take it anymore and tapped out. AWESOME MATCH!!!!!!!!!
Next was intermission....let "Romper Room" begin! During the intermission, "Homicidal" Steven Davis was given some kind of Hall of Fame award and Doomsday ran in and beat him up. Davis then challenged him to a match.
MsChif vs. Angelus Layne
I hadn't seen MsChif in a while and she looked as though she was in even better shape then the last time I saw her....which, I think, was one of the St. Louis Anarchy shows in O'Fallon last year. I don't know all that much about Layne, but the few matches I've seen of her, she seems to get better and better. However, for this match, she was in there with one of the absolute best in the entire business. And while she did hang in there with her, MsChif looked like a million dollars! Of course, MsChif did her usual huge screams and stuff like that, but when the two of the locked up, MsChif was putting her in all kinds of crazy submission holds. Layne got in a few moves, but not many. In the end, MsChif was arguing with the ref and Layne rolled her up from behind for a quick pin. The point of Layne winning was to make the score 2 to 1 in the "Destroy vs. Defend" battle. Kind of a bummer ending to an otherwise great match. I was kinda hoping that MsChif would spit her green mist in the ref's face after the match, but it didn't happen. All in all, a good match though.
Krotch vs. Cash Bordin
I can't say I know much of anything about this Krotch guy. I know he works mostly around Chicago for AAW and, I think, Dreamwave. He's a skinny guy with sort of longer hair. He kinda reminded me of a cross between Colin (Delaney) Olsen and Jigsaw without his mask. He came out and did some goofy dancing and was thrusting his crotch all over the place. He got the mic and was hitting it against his crotch and then made a ton of d*ck jokes. Somewhere in Canada, Sexxxy Eddy is screaming "GIMMICK INFRINGEMENT!!!" Anyway....Cash came in through the backdoor and was wearing a hockey mask for some reason. It's amazing how over this guy is in Olney. The crowd went INSANE for him. I have to admit too that in this match, Bordin did look better than the last time I saw him, but that's still not saying too much. He's decent, but that's really about it. The match was alright though. The best move in the whole thing was went Cash was in the corner and Krotch went for a Bronco Buster. Cash put his foot up and kicked Krotch in his....well, crotch. Krotch's over-sell of the move was worth the whole match! In the end, Cash hit him with a Shining Wizard and got the pin. An alright match, for what it was.
Main Event
The Kentucky Buffet (Matt Cage & Alex Castle) and Joey O'Reily vs. Shane Hollister and Zero Gravity (Brett Gakiya and CJ Esparza)
It was great to see Zero G again, but a little odd to see them playing heels. I still don't understand why (other then their short run in CZW) they haven't made it farther in the business. Again, it must be because of their size. The same could be said about Hollister too, other then the few times he's popped up in ROH over the years. The match actually started off with quite a bit of stalling and playing to the crowd. Course, the crowd was molten hot for the match. Once things got going, Hollister took a heck of a beating from all three of the other guys. KYB and O'Reily looked awesome too. The Zero G guys didn't get involved in the match nearly as much as I was hoping for but when they did, they pulled off their usual super-fast paced action. There wasn't too many huge high-flying moves but they did do the spot in which Hollister jumped through the ropes onto Cage and Castle. Then, both the Zero G guys did absolutely awesome flip moves onto Cage and Castle as well. But then, the biggest high spot of the match came from O'Reily who did a swan dive over the rope (and not touching the rope at all) onto everyone. At that point, the whole thing broke down and everyone was flying all around and getting near-pins and other team members were breaking them up. So much was happening so quickly. Hollister went to do a low kick through the ropes to either Cage or Castle but ended up kicking both Zero G guys. Then, each of the faces did their big move on Hollister...Cage hit a powerbomb, Castle hit an ace crusher and then O'Reily did one of the most perfect 450 splashes off the top rope I've ever seen and got the pin.
All in all, I had very high hopes for this show and while I certainly wouldn't say it was a disappointment, I will say that it didn't quite live up to what I totally expected. That's not to say the show was bad.....far from it, in fact. The show was good and the Rose/Cannon match was off-the-charts good! It's just that some of the other matches I had high hopes for didn't quite live up to what I was expecting...partly because they were too short or because the endings had to fit into the whole "Defend vs. Destroy" storyline. Also, I really wish that Danny Cannon had been used somehow in the Zero G match. That's not to say that KYB didn't look good because they did. I just think it would have been a bit better if they had brought in someone else for Hollister to team with against KYB and then have Zero G face Cannon & O'Reily. I would absolutely KILL to see a Zero G vs. Cannon & O'Reily match! But...all in all, it was an enjoyable show and I certainly feel as though I got my $10 worth!
