Um....is it possible for me to officially announce my retirement from the Evansville/Southern Indiana wrestling "scene"? If I had a white towel I'd be throwing it at my computer right now.

Were you there??? Did you see or hear the crowd?? May not be your "cup of tea", but to A LOT of people, it's the greatest show/promotion around the Evansville area "scene".
Don't knock it until you tried it. I dare ya to show up and experience MECW... instead of just trash talking it. Saturday's show was one of the BEST shows MECW has put on... according to the 250+ fans in attendance.
I think the referee nicked his finger on the ring rope cable... so there was a little blood for ya LOL. haha You missed it. D@mn vampires.
Thanks for your support though.
Sincerely, A disgruntled recipient of criticism of d@mn good wrestling promotion where everybody works their A$$es off to try and provide people like you decent entertainment and all they get is $hit like this from people who don't even go to the d@mn shows!
Have a $hitty day, sir!

Wow with such great attitudes I can see why everyone is pounding at the front doors to come see MECW. Yes that is sarcasm.

I don't run MECW nor do I even work for MECW. But I DO represent and back quality! So shut up "A Truthful NFW Opinion"
Thanks!

Honestly, there is no way im going to drive 2 hours to see these kind of shows. I wouldnt drive 3 to see my dream card, so there is no chance im going to go see a 1993 USWA show in 2011. Thats just me though. Im sure these kind of shows will thrive in the area, but its not our cup of tea. Ive got no beef with MECW, id just rather see more Daniels, Hero and Richards and less of Chris Michaels, and washed up WWE guys.

I wouldn't drive that far for wrestling either. I understand that some people would like to see the younger guys that are on TV, but those guys do not draw enough to have them main event anything. Im not positive but I am almost sure that the people who run MECW want to profit from their shows. So that means they have to book the guys that draw the biggest crowds. It seems their crowds are getting bigger and bigger each show. For this to happen they had to stop booking wrestlers that aren't main stream and they had to leave Evansville. Brian Christopher, Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee, and Tracey Smothers are putting butts in seats right now. Hopefully someday MECW won't need these guys. Right now they do.

Like i said, i understand the booking for the area. People in Monroe City dont know the difference between Chris Hero and Master Rich. That being said, with the card having guys like Steiner, Lawler, Dundee, Christopher and since he is with TNA now, Tommy Mercer, that cant come cheap either. Like i said, the undercard is where id like to see more young guys that can work. Not guys like Hero or Davey, but local guys that wouldnt cost much at all and still keep the cards average age from being from 40-65.

Oh, don't worry, Um. You wishing me a sh*tty day is nothing from the norm. It's business as usual for me.
As for your point (I think there was a point in there somewhere anyway), thanks for stating your opinion. I'm glad that you disagree with me. Disagreements is what makes things better sometimes. Anyway, I'm not being anti-MECW in the slightest. In fact, I know people who work for the company and I hope everything works out for them, they make a lot of money and are able to run shows for the next 20 years. As for their next show, I hope they draw 1000 fans. My only point was that I won't be one of them. When I read Nic's report of the show on Sat. (thanks for that, by the way), my only reaction was, "That's it, I give up." It has nothing to do with how many people they draw, how loud they are or even how much other people enjoy the show. I mean, WWE draws thousands who enjoy their product, but that doesn't mean I have any interest in going. So hey, if you enjoy what MECW is doing then I hope you have a wonderful time at their next show. And no, I'm not trying to be sarcastic in the slightest. I honestly think the thing that disheartens people such as Ike and myself the most is that there are so many shows in this area that are booking guys that we enjoy watching and yet it's as though none of that even exists and Evansville (a larger town with a great wrestling history) doesn't get any of it. As I've said before, it blows my mind.
As for guys "busting their butts", I know there are guys that work for MECW that do and I've said many times before, I respect anyone who has the guts to step in a wrestling ring. Lord knows I would have never had the guts to do it, even if I was 15 years younger. But as a fan, there are just certain things I enjoy seeing and certain things I don't.
As for me being a "vampire", all I can say to that is "THANK YOU!!!" I make no bones about the fact that I love a good death match tournament and I also know that I'm in the minority with that opinion. I also know that I don't care that I am either. It's just something I enjoy. When I write out my little (or not-so-little) reports of those kinds of shows, I'm not trying to say, "Everyone should go to these!", I'm just sharing my experiences. If you don't want to know about them, then don't read my reports. It's really that simple. In fact, if you enjoyed the show so much on Sat., write about it. I'd love to read a more detailed report of what went down, even if it's something I wouldn't want to actually attend. Sometimes when I write out my reports, I almost feel as though I'm filling a void that needs to be filled on these local boards. As for me going to local shows, just look through this (or even MECW's) board and see the things I've said about CCW, MECW and even the one NFW show I attended last year. As I've said many times before, if a local company runs a show that I want to see, I'll be in the front row. If they don't, then I'll stay home and look for shows that catch my interest that I might be able to travel to attend. It's really that simple. As for traveling to shows, I don't expect everyone else to do what I do. I do what I do for two reasons....I enjoy traveling around the country and I have nothing better to do with my time. In the process of the last two years of traveling around for shows, I've been able to see parts of this country that I never dreamed I'd get the chance to see. It's not that I couldn't have done it anyway, it's just that going to shows is a great excuse to make it happen.
I got off the topic there, but anyway, I also love a good, solid wrestling show with hold-for-hold, five star matches every bit as much as a show filled with "blood and gut" silliness. I would much rather see guys like Davey Richards or Chris Hero than Scott Steiner and Brian Christopher. That's just my opinion and you're free to disagree with it. Like I said though, I'm done with even caring about what goes on around here. When I first started traveling around to go to indy shows in 2008, it was almost a year before I even went to a show here in Evansville...and that was only because VIP was doing things that I found interesting.
I think that covers everything you said. We'll agree to disagree and all is good.
Have a wonderful day!

Well said! That sounded a lot better than, "Can I retire from the scene now" .. in response to people working very hard to put on a good quality show. That's all. My only problem with blood baths is... 90% of shows that provide matches with pure blood are just wannabe promotions and out of shape guys who never learned how to do it right. Untrained individuals who DON'T belong in a wrestling ring. And here I must agree with Jim Cornette... it has (helped) killed the business (among other things). A lot of us Evansville folk will never understand ones fascination with blood matches. With that said, there are a few, such as a large portion of the original ECW and people like Pondo and Necro who have actually made sense of matches and have involved blood at the same time. Beyond that.......... Those type of matches are pointless, worthless and should be banned from all venues across the U.S. Nick Gage is a piece of $hit who couldn't work his way out of a wet paper bag. With all due respect to his family, JC Bailey's life ended early because of the "innovative hardcore" crap..... and for what? ?? To please some Vampires? Once again, just my opinion. YOU are NOT stupid for enjoying a certain "style" ... THEY are the stupid ones for actually doing it. As for that "style" being called "wrestling" ... is just asinine!

I should have made a slight clarification to that last post. When I say that I'm a blood mark or vampire or whatever, I couldn't agree with you more about the out-of-shape guys doing the "you hit me with something stupid, now I'll hit you" kind of spots. I'm not a fan of those kinds of matches either. Hell, I wasted my time going to last year's Carnage Cup, so I know all too well how bad those matches can be. I didn't even bother writing a report about that turd of a show! I was almost hoping no one I even know would buy the DVD of it and see me on it....yes, it was THAT bad! But, there are guys like Drake Younger, Scotty Vortekz, Danny Havoc, Jon Moxley, Sami Callihan, Devon Moore who can all work "normal" matches just as well as they work death matches. And as you said, guys like Necro and Pondo have done good deathmatches...although Necro doesn't do them much anymore and Pondo's seen better days. I'd put guys like Brain Damage and Masada in that category as well...being pure *ss-kickers who are fun to watch...in my opinion anyway. As for ECW, that plays a big part in what I enjoy too because ECW was really the only wrestling I even watched in the 1990's. You're right too in that those guys do what they do for little or nothing. I agree that it's crazy, but it's like I've said before, it's not that I have a desire to watch guys destroy themselves, but if they're willing (or maybe dumb enough) to do it, then I'm going to watch.
It's not for everybody, that's for sure and I completely understand that most people are put off by it. But again, I don't care what other people think because I just enjoy what I enjoy. I also don't expect any of the companies that run here in Evansville to book shows like that. That's a big part of the reason I plan out trips to places like Philly....so I can see shows that I want to see. Again, I don't expect anyone else to do the things I do...I'm just a strange person who does these sorts of things.
But, it's like I said, that's NOT the only kind of wrestling shows I enjoy. I still enjoy a show full of good, stiff, hard-hitting, hold-for-hold matches too. Matches that feature guys such as Davey Richards, Chris Hero, The Briscoe Brothers or younger guys like AR Fox, Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly or Rich Swann. I've already been to two shows in 2011, one in Indianapolis and one in O'Fallon, Illinois. You can read my reports from those shows on this board and I can tell you that those were two of the best shows here in the midwest I've attended since I first started going to indy shows. And neither of those shows relied on former Memphis or WWE guys at all. The crowds for both of those shows were jam-packed and hot as absolute hell. So, when I said that I was "retiring from the scene", I wasn't trying to be a smart-*ss. I really am giving up on going to any shows here in Southern Indiana because they offer nothing that I want to see. Again, that's no put-down to any of the companies here. I wasn't being sarcastic when I said that I hope MECW puts on shows that their fans enjoy and they make a boatload of money in the process. I really hope they do. It's just that right now, they're not putting on shows that I wish to see. It's really that simple.
So, I hope that clarifies things a bit. And by the way, I half agree with you about Nick Gage. As I've said before, his "normal" matches suck. But I have to admit that the matches he had with Thumbtack Jack in 2009 were pretty darn fun to watch....and I was there for all of them. Also, his match with Abdullah Kobayashi at last year's Tournament of Death was fun to watch as well...but mostly for the part at the beginning when Kobayashi grabbed the mic and yelled, "YOU C*CKS*CKER!!!!" HA HA!! Good times indeed!! But, talking about Gage is a moot point now since he's going to be living in the "gray-bar hotel" for a while.
