First of all let me say that the crowd may have been sparse in Cannelton but they were the loudest crowd in the history of Main Event Championship Wrestling. Thank you to all of the Cannelton Bulldogs that showed up for a great show.
Ryan Drago vs. Canadian Cougar
This match had a 10 minute time limit which was a shame because these are 2 of the best wrestlers in MECW. It went to the final second and Cougar rolled through a walls of Jericho from Drago to get the pin with 1 second remaining.
"Bad Boy" Jason Briley vs. Just John
The crowd absolutely fell in love with John. It was like Justin Bieber walked out. That and the fact that Briley took the mic immediately upon entering the ring and professed his hatred for Cannelton that dated to 2001 when they booed him when he came out. Cannelton would continue to hate Briley as he beat John with a Memphis Cradle.
"The Real Deal" Derrick Neal vs. Kyle O'Reilly
Word in the building is that O'Reilly (later confirmed) has just signed with Ring Of Honor Wrestling. Another ROH athlete in MECW. This was a great match that reminded me of an MMA fight. A great deal of striking with O'Reilly taking the victory in impressive fashion.
"Tornado" Tony Kozina vs. Rudy Switchblade
Former OVW Tag Team Champion Rudy Switchblade made his debut against the totally unpredictable Kozina. Kozina showed everyone why the nickname "Tornado" fits him perfectly as he struck without warning before the introductions. He pummeled Switchblade relentlessly and when Switchblade finally took the upper hand, Kozina clutched his knee in sheer pain. Referee Rudy Charles kept Switchblade off of Kozina to check if he was ok. Switchblade then went in to check on Kozina and Kozina rolled Switchblade up in a small package for the deceitful win.
"The Headliner" Chris Michaels vs. The Metal Master
This started as a great match. The suddenly MECW's Executive VP AC West, who was sitting at the announce table all night long ran to ringside and tripped Metal Master as he was thrown into the ropes. Metal Master beat all odds and West and Michaels had some communication breakdown as Metal Master walked away with the victory. Chris Michaels has aligned himself with the most powerful man in MECW. Where will this go?
If you missed it be sure to watch out for it on My44 on Saturday mornings at 11am central, 12 eastern. Over the air that would be channel 44.2, Insight 119, WOW 103, and Time Warner 305. DVR it if you must, but YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT!
For everything MECW go to mecwpro.com or call the Main Event Hotline at 323-521-MECW (323-521-6329)
Thanks again Cannelton and we will see everyone next Saturday in Monroe City at the Blue Jean Center, where Billy Blaze returns to fight (not wrestle) Chris Thomas. Tickets for this TV taping are only $10 and will be available at the door.
See you there!
