I have to admit that I had given up on this board, but since I was asked about writing stuff on here, I figured I'd go ahead and write a review about last night's show. First of all, I wasn't sure if I was even going to make this one because I had just gotten back from my yearly Tournament of Death/NYC trip (TOD was good this year, by the way!!!), but since I didn't have anything better to do last night, I figured "What the heck!" and made my way to Carmi. It was an interesting show, to say the least!
Kaige Kuttler (w/ Mr Wayne) vs. Reaper
Well...all I can say about this one is that Kuttler was yelling at the fans when Reaper rolled him up and pinned him. At least it was over that quick.
After the match, Clayton Cosby came out and did this promo about being the new commissioner or something and then he brought out his "enforcer", Bull Pain.....in jean shorts and crocs....yep, Bull Pain in tacky clog shoes with holes in them. Now THAT was a sight to see! And oh, what a surprise, he beat Kuttler up with his bat.
Lennox Norris vs. Kyle Maverick
Norris was suppose to face Dustin Rayz, but apparently Rayz (as well the rest of the Ohio crew (The Crist Brothers and Alex Colon)) didn't make it to the show. So, Maverick was brought in as a replacement. Maverick has really been working his butt off lately, working all over the midwest and up into Ohio and places out east. He's not great, but he's decent and seems to be getting better.....HOWEVER, having him in a match with Norris didn't do much to further his abilities, that's for sure. The match almost seemed as though it should have been called the "Mike Quackenbush School of Arm Drags" match....and almost half the arm drags they did were botched. If these shows were put out on DVD, I'm pretty sure this match would make it into Botchamania, complete with John Zandig yelling "JEEZ-US!!!" after each botched arm drag. And, as I said, it made me feel bad for Maverick since he's actually not that bad. In the end, Kaige Kutter did a run-in and Norris ended up winning by hitting Maverick with some kind of odd swinging neck breaker/ ace crusher move. So I guess Norris and Kuttler are a team now....oh joy!
Madman Pondo vs. Ben "Big Bear" Boone
I've never heard of this Boone guy, but he was pretty much your standard issue big football player looking kinda guy. The match was going alright....or, well, as alright for a match can go in which Pondo is actually wrestling. But then, Juicy Jimmy, Father Fear, Mr. Wayne and some other guy ran out and attacked Pondo. They then attacked Boone too, so I guess the match was a "no contest". Anyway, they beat down Pondo and then Jimmy used aether (straight from Memphis, I guess) to put Pondo out and then he put lipstick on him. The whole thing then turned into a big cluster-f*ck and in the melee, the old guy next to me got into a fight with the one security guy....the guy who always wears a do-rag and looks drunk off his ass at CCW shows. To be honest, their near-fight was more entertaining then what was happening in the ring, so I'm not even sure how all of that ended.
Next was the first intermission and then they had a battle royal.
I'm not even sure where to begin with the battle royal. The whole thing was a bit of an odd cluster-f*ck as well. Here's the order in which people were eliminated:
1. Dr. ? (I never even saw this guy, but they announced someone named Dr. *someone* was eliminated, so, ok....)
2. Kyle Maverick
3. Fenris (He's some little masked dude)
4. Cole James (from IWAU, among other places)
5. Bull Brunson
6. Kaige Kuttler
7. Lennox Norris
8. Nekkrosis
9. Ben "Big Bear" Boone
And the winner of the battle royal: Jake Capone
My thoughts on all of this......Um....yeah.....at least it was short!
Oliver Cain vs. Nick Iggy
This was my first time seeing Iggy. He's a young guy who looked decent. I believe this was Cain's first match in S.N.P.W. and he looked awesome, as he usually does. The match started off with both guys playing tot he crowd a bit, but once that was over, the match was on....and it was surprisingly good. It was a bit obvious that Iggy hasn't been in the business long. Some of his moves looked a bit green, but overall, he wasn't bad at all. Cain looked like a million bucks and worked very smooth. The action went back and forth, but in the end, Cain caught Iggy in some sort of a strange single-leg figure-four type move that looked quite painful and Iggy tapped out. A really solid match from both guys and I wouldn't mind seeing either of them again!
Next, Pondo came back out and cut a promo about how he wants a match with Jimmy at the next show on July 11th. He also said that the admission for the next show is going to be a can of food and a food drive.
Heath Hatton vs. Hyzaya
This was my first time seeing Hatton. I had heard a lot about this guy though. He's a really tall, tan and tattooed dude who looks like just about any generic nobody you'd see in WWE these days. Hyzaya, as always, looked awesome and I knew this match would be good. It lived up to my expectations. My only (small) complaint I have about Hatton is that he's obviously watched a bit too much WWE because every time he'd pull off a big move, he'd play to the crowd instead of following up on it. To me, being the smart mark that I am, that got a bit annoying. However, whenever they would "chain wrestle", so to speak, both guys looked really good. Hyzaya is, without a doubt, one of the best in the area! The match had a lot of solid, back and forth action and in the end, Hyzaya won with a sky high power-bomb type move.
Next was the second intermission....I think it happened here anyway. I can't remember!
Adam Gooch vs. Matt "M-Dogg 20" Cross
This match was suppose to be Gooch vs. Alex Colon for the S.N.P.W. title, but as I said before, Colon wasn't there. So, they stripped him of the title and the winner of this match would be the new champ. As I've said in the past, I'm not the biggest M-Dogg fan, but it was pretty cool to get to see him in person again. The last (and only other) time I'd ever seen him was at an IPW show in which he faced Drake Younger. He's looking a bit older these days.....his hair's even starting to turn gray a little bit. Man....that makes me feel old!! Before the match got started, Gooch was heckling the crowd and some goofball fan slapped him and Gooch punched him in the face. Once the match got going, it was really good. Both guys worked strong and M-Dogg did a lot of the moves he's known for. However, the usual problem popped up....having the low ceiling cut down M-Dogg's ability to do insane high-flying moves. So, that was a bit of a bummer. Still, the match was good with both guys working well against each other. In the end, Gooch rolled M-Dogg up and pulled his tights to get a quick win and become the new S.N.P.W. champ. After the match, he started beating M-Dogg with the belt until Hyzaya made the save.
Next was the final intermission. M-Dogg came out and was selling some stuff, so I bought a DVD from him that he signed and I talked to him a bit. He was a really nice guy!
Main Event
No D.Q. Street Fight
2 Tuff Tony & Bull Pain (w/Clayton Cosby) vs. Juicy Jimmy & Jason Nesmith (w/ Father Fear, Mr. Wayne and some other guy)
Before the match, Jimmy came out with his gang and tried to act as though he was going to "bump and grind" on me. Sorry Jimmy....I once had Danshoku Dino try to kiss me at the ECW Arena so anything you can do isn't going to scare me.....well, not much anyway! Ha ha!!!! Anyway, there were a bunch of promos cut before the match. Nesmith actually looked a bit nervous at the fact that he was about to get his butt beaten by Bull Pain's bat. And speaking of Bull, I respect the heck out of that guy for what he's done in the wrestling business, but I gotta say that my desire to watch him perform really got killing about a year or so ago when he worked that one match in CCW that was full of him throwing racial slurs (especially the "N word") at his opponent. Anyway, once the match got going, it was exactly what you'd expect....everyone brawling all around the place and Bull Pain not selling ANYTHING!!! Once everyone was out of the ring, I was following the fight between Tony and Jimmy since I figured Bull was just hitting Nesmith with the bat anyway. At once point, Jimmy and Tony ended up in the bar, but didn't really do much of anything in there. They then made their way outside and fought in the parking lot. At one point, Tony ended up with a garden hose that was turned on and he shot Jimmy (and everyone else) with water. Once they got back inside, they got into the ring and Bull just beat everyone with his bat and then pinned Nesmith.
After the match, man....things got REALLY weird. This one "special" guy who was extremely, EXTREMELY drunk got in the ring and for some strange reason, they let him have a mic and he slurred his way through about every WWE catch phrase he knew. Then, they got Jimmy back in the ring and Bull hit him a few more times with his bat and then they let the drunk dude put a sad looking STF hold on him and Jimmy tapped out. Then, the guy gets back on the mic and starting yelling into it. I was standing next to Perfect Storm and I said to him, "Oh my God....WHAT'S HAPPENING??" If only there was video of all of this, S.N.P.W. would get their very own episode of Botchamania! As Zandig would say, "JEEZ-US!!!!!!"
Well....all I can say is that the people who where there sure seemed to be enjoying themselves, but then again, I'm not so sure they had the ability to NOT enjoy themselves with all of this. I think the thing that hurt this show the most was the people who didn't make it (Irish Airborne, Alex Colon, Dustin Rayz, Gregory Iron (He's apparently having some concussion issues....get well, Greg, you're awesome!!!), Shank Barzini and Hammer Jack all didn't make the show). I will say that the Cain/Iggy match, the Hatton/Hyzaya match and the Gooch/M-Dogg matches were all good. The rest....was "eh" at the VERY best. During all the insanity, it was announced, as I said, that the next show is on July 11th and the admission is a can of food. Also they announced that Nick "Eugene" Densmore is going to be there....oh goodie!! The last time I saw him in person was at an IWA:East Coast show and he spent most of the match trying to stick his thumb up the ref's butt. So yeah.....the crowd in Carmi should LOVE him. I will say though that I think it's awesome that Sam Cosby is doing this food drive thing for the show.
I haven't been to every S.N.P.W. show but up until now, their shows have been very solid. However, last night's show really felt like being back in the Coliseum for a CCW show and I'd be lying if I didn't say that doesn't disappoint me, because it does.
Take it away, Zandig:
