Here's what went down last night:
I got to the show a little past 6 and there was already a pretty strong crowd of at least 100 or so people. By the time the show started, there had to have been over 200 or so there. In typical CCW fashion, the show started more than 30 minutes late. Scarlett Rose came out and sang the National Anthem. Walt then announced that the first two matches would be CCW only matches and then the rest would be CCW vs. JCW matches.
Lonestar vs. Derek Neil vs. Alister FearLonestar really "heeled it up" with the crowd. Neil reminded me of Darin Corbin, both in his looks and how he moved. The match itself was decent, but nothing special. Lonestar and Neil spent most of the match double-teaming Fear, but once either of them tried to pin him, the other would pull them off. Finally, Fear was thrown outside and Star hit Neil with a really sick looking Death Valley Driver style move and pinned him.
Shank Barzini vs. Chris MichealsShank was his usual, awesome self but when Micheals was announced as his opponent, my first reaction was, "Oh great....what a way to waste good talent, CCW." But, I have to admit that Micheals really didn't do too bad in this match. Of course, Shank's selling make his moves look like a million bucks, but there wasn't nearly as much stalling as I've usually seen in Micheals' matches. In fact, Shank was doing more rest holds then Micheals. In the end, Micheals hit Shank with a super kick and pinned him. It was a short and "to the point" kind of match. Not great, but not horrible either.
Next was when the CCW vs. JCW matches were to happen. Walt introduced JCW's ring announcer. I might be getting this guy's name wrong, but I could have sworn that he was announced as Leggs Diamond (gotta love that wonderful sound system!
) They did this spot in which they were doing coin flips to see if a CCW or JCW referee would ref each other the following matches. I figured this little gimmick would get old....or that it would lead to the refs getting in a fight. I was right on both accounts.
Micus Silva vs. Sexy Slim DSilva came out first and looked great. D then came out and looked like the lovechild of Adrian Adonis and "Playboy" Buddy Rose and the gay brother of Bobby Dempsey. He was sure skilled in the art of "long, pointless heel promos". Once he dropped his robe and showed his "sexy body" and the match was on, I gotta admit, it was a pretty decent match. Silva really worked well. He's got to be one of the best talents CCW has. Every match I see him in, he seems to get better and better. D did a lot of comedy posing spots, including slapping his man-boobs right in front of me at one point.....wow, THERE'S something I can scratch off my "bucket list"! HA HA!!! The silliest spot in the match was when D called for a move he called "tittie city" in which he pressed Silva's face into his man-boobs and tried to make him pass out. Outside of the silly spots, the match was fairly competitive with both guys hitting some big moves and getting some near falls. In the end, Silva hit D with a super kick and pinned him. Two matches in a row ending with super kicks....not cool, but still, it was a pretty good match.
Next was the first intermission.
Hyzaya vs. Tracy Smothers (w/Derek Neil)Hyzaya came out first and looked to be in awesome shape. As a side note, he is debuting at the ECW Arena in Philly on Sat. in a multi-man "Aerial Assault" match for CZW. Anyway, Tracy was his normal, awesome self. It was nice to see him again since he seemed to have disappeared there for a while. He did all of his normal "everybody dies!" heel promos but again, once the match got going, it was decent. Granted, at this point in his career, Tracy isn't able to pull off nearly as much stuff as he used to. BUT, whenever there were flurries of action, he showed why he's one of the most well-respected legends in the business, especially when it is so obvious that his one leg is in terrible shape and he is in so much pain. During the match, Neil got involved several times and at one point, during some confusion, Hyzaya rolled Tracy up and got a quick pin.
Next, Bryer Wellington came out cut a heel promo. He sorta of reminded me of Mitch Ryder. Anyway, he basically said that we weren't going to get to see him wrestle tonight and then, he left. Um....ok, that was totally pointless! Next, Walt introduced JCW's commentator, Kevin "K.G." Gill. All I can say about him is that a guy his age, dressed like that and talking and acting the way he was...the word "buffoon" comes to mind. Anyway, he just gave a run-down of the score between CCW and JCW....again, rather pointless, but okay.
CCW title match
No D.Q
Adam Gooch (c) vs. VampiroGooch came out first and was really "heeling it up" with the fans. I have to admit, he is good working fans up too. Next, Vampiro came out and he actually looked pretty good. I have heard so many things about him that I honestly didn't know what to expect when it was said he was appearing at this show. Obviously, he looks older and isn't in as good a shape as he was 15 years ago, but he still looked good. The crowd was red hot for him too. At the beginning of the match, Gooch did some heel stalling and at one, pulled his pants down and showed everyone his butt.....what is with him wanting to pull his pants down so much. He seems to enjoy doing that a bit TOO much and it's a little creepy, to say the least. After all of that, the match got going and it was pretty good. They brawled around in the crowd some. At one point, Gooch jumped on the table by the entrance and broke it. The end of the match came pretty quickly as Vampiro hit a really sick, nasty-looking sit-out piledriver style move on Gooch and pinned him and became the new CCW champion. After the match, he got on the mic and cut what seemed like an honest, heart-felt promo and thanked everyone for coming and said that he didn't expect to win the title....that makes two of us. Hopefully, this will mean that Vampiro will come back, at least from time to time and not just come back next week and drop the title to someone else....or, he'll get "stripped of the belt" for some goofy reason.
JP Lightning, Scott Sexton & Matt Atreya vs. Violent J, 2 Tuff Tony & Corp. RobinsonI have to say this straight up, in no way, shape or form am I an ICP fan. No offense to anyone who is, it's just not my thing. That being said, I have to admit that I marked out seeing J, Corp. and Tony come out from the curtain. As he walked around the ring and shook hands, Violent J seemed like a cool dude. Tony seemed as though he had already been hitting those whiskey bottles he was "two-fisting" pretty hard and Corp. was his normal self. I think the last time I saw him in person was the '09 KOTDM. Anyway, the match itself was again, decent, but nothing too special. It started off with JP against J. J was about as good as you would expect from a rapper wrestling...in other words, he was terrible in the ring, but could still get over just because of who he is. The one who really pulled off the most awesome moves was Tony. He did his flipping leg-drop move from the top rope with Lightning laid over the top rope and pulled off a really awesome moonsault. For most of the match, the heels were in control and whenever there was a "hot tag" the action would shift the other way, only to have the heels take control again. Even Violent J took a fairly decent beating from the three heels. In the end, the action broke down with all six guys in the ring. In an obvious nod to the late Rollin' Hard, Tony grabbed one of his whiskey bottles and poured whiskey on his hand then lit it on fire (where I was sitting, you could smell burning hair!) and punched Atreya and then pinned him. The crowd obviously popped huge and the post-match was just a huge party. Obviously, the match itself wasn't anything great, but the overall feel of the whole thing was actually pretty darn cool.
Next, another intermission.

Hardcore Match
Madman Pondo and Necro Butcher vs. "Juicy" Jimmy Feltcher & "Ripper" () w/ Mr. WayneBefore the match, they did the ref coin flip thing and Drew Taylor won. The CCW ref (the guy named Jeff-something) pushed him and Taylor punched him and he took a huge bump! I didn't catch the name of Jimmy's partner. They came out first and when Pondo and Necro came out, the fight was ON. Necro seemed to be a bit crazier then I've seen him recently. Early in the match, Necro and Pondo whipped Jimmy into a corner where "Ripper" was sitting and Drew Taylor was checking on him. All three men crashed into a pile and Taylor was out for the rest of the match. The match then went to the outside pretty quickly and somewhere along the way, Necro pulled out scissors and cut Jimmy up. He was bleeding all over the place. It was obvious that Pondo was ready to take the action outside. I was in between the two of them and Pondo yelled, "Who wants to see us take this outside?" That was the cue and everyone ran outside to watch the action. Pondo suplexed and did a backdrop on "Ripper" right in the middle of Court Street. Necro dragged Jimmy out and was attacking both him and "Ripper" with the scissors. I was following Necro, but apparently, Pondo and Jimmy ended up fighting over by the old Republican Headquarters building that they are rebuilding. Necro crotched "Ripper" on the new street post. Then at some point, Necro started going at Jimmy again with the scissors. At one point, he set Jimmy up and took a long run at him (Necro running barefoot on concrete is a sight to see!) and hit Jimmy with the point of the scissors.....and then.....did it AGAIN! In the end, Pondo covered "Ripper" and Necro covered Jimmy on the lawn and sidewalk and the crowd all counted to three for the win. Apparently though, I heard someone say that they did a double DQ ending inside the building....but honestly, who really cares? The whole thing was just fun to watch and me being me, I was as up-close and personal to it all as possible. HA HA!!!! After the "match", Pondo continued to beat on Jimmy and hit both him and Mr. Wayne with the stop sign a couple of times. Jimmy was laying on the sidewalk, bleeding and not moving. One woman standing beside me had this look of horror on her face and said, "Is he dead?" I said, "Nah....he's hurting, but it's all part of the show. He'll be fine." Jimmy did look to be legit hurt though as Mike Miller (one of the new owners of IWA:MS) and another guy carried him back into the building. Meanwhile, Pondo was really working the crowd up on the steps of the Coliseum.
In the end, I certainly can't say this was the best show I've ever seen, but it sure was a lot of fun. And for the fact that it was all free, I certainly don't think anyone left disappointed.
