Here's what went down last night:
Pre-Show match
Hyzaya vs. Kyle Maverick
Hyzaya looked as awesome as ever. The match was really short (about 2 minutes or so) and Hyzaya won by hitting Maverick with a really good looking swanton bomb off the top rope.
Once the main show started, they announced that the Mia Yim vs. Kimber Lee match wasn't happening because Yim had some person issues to deal with. That kinda sucked because Yim has really stepped her game up lately and is becoming a force to watch on the indies right now.
AR Fox vs. Alex Colon
Before I talk about this match, I have to mention the rumors about Fox. I'm not even going to get into them, but yes, they are 100% true. When I first found out that it was a fact, it did kind of make me think of Fox a little different, but after seeing this match, all I can say is that dude is so talented that I don't care that the rumors are true. The guy is amazing! It's just a shame that he will probably not go any farther in the business then he he right now. And what's even more of a shame is the fact that he is a super-nice guy too. As for this match, all I can say is "OH MY GOD!!!" This match was awesome! Colon seems to get better all the time and he hung in there with Fox. Fox, of course, was amazing, pulling off some of the most breath-taking high-flying moves I've ever seen. He even did the spot in which he jumped over the corner and did a flip on top of Colon on the floor. The match went back and forth with tons of near-falls. In the end, Fox had Colon on the top rope of the corner and went for his move where he jumps up there with him and then does a flip to the mat, but Colon rolled him over and got a quick pin. Fantastic match and it is my choice for match of the night.
Adam Cole vs. Jake Crist
Cole is kind of in a weird situation with CZW right now. Because of his ROH contract, he can't appear on CZW's i-PPVs. So, it's impossible for him to work big matches in CZW anymore. I doubt he'll be around CZW much longer because of this. I hadn't seen him in person in a while and he looked great. Jake, as always, looked awesome as well. Both guys were working a great match. In some ways, it was almost a British-style match with a lot of mat wrestling and submission holds. Both guys were getting near falls and pulling off some smooth moves......until.....DJ Hyde came out and attacked Cole. Crist tried to make a save, but DJ then attacked him as well. As for the match, I guess it would be called a "no contest". BJ Whitmer then came out to make the save and this led to....
DJ Hyde vs. BJ Whitmer
DJ got on the mic and cut a promo about hos he attacked Cole because he couldn't get the job done with Sami Callihan and he was going to beat up Whitmer because neither could he. The match was alright, but nothing special. DJ looked terrible, as always and Whitmer did what he could to make the match good. But, even the best can only make someone like DJ watchable. The match started off with both guys brawling all around the ring. They threw each other into the chairs and into the walls. Once they got back into the ring, Whitmer got some big, stiff shots in, but in the end, DJ hit him with a lariat and got the pin. Jeeze....way to screw up a good match (Cole/Crist) and then put yourself over one of the best in the whole indies. Way to go, Deej!
4-team tag match
Jeff Mayhem & Troy Marcum vs. Remi Wilkins & California Dream vs. Red Banks & Sebastian Suave vs. DNA (Arron McCormick & Doug Charles)
I wasn't even sure who some of these guys were and I probably got a couple of their names wrong. I've seen DNA a few times. Of course, Wilkins is awesome. I'm still not sure what "Cali. Dream's" name is. I know Mayhem works in Ohio with Marcum, who recently worked for S.N.P.W. in Carmi. The match was a typical cluster f*ck with guys flying all over the place. Wilkins really looked good though. That guys really close to being very well-known in the indies....I hope so anyway. There was the typical "mosh pit" spot on the outside with McCormick hitting a big dive. In the end, while guys were brawling all around the ring, McCormick hit "Cali. Dream" with an awesome 450 splash and got the pin. I'd really like to see a match between DNA and Zero Gravity.
Barbwire Madness match
Danny Havoc vs. Ron Mathis
The last time I saw Mathis, he was laying on the ground of a restaurant in Alabama last month at the Carnage Cup and had to be carried out. I just remember the ref asking him, "Where are you hurting?" and he screamed, "ALL OVER, GOD-D*MMIT!!!" I first saw him work an IPW show a few years ago and he was less-than-impressive. But, he's really gotten a lot better since then. People can say what they want about deathmatches, but as far as non-tournament deathmatches with really no reason, this one was pretty darn good. Havoc, of course, looked great. The only weapons that were used in this one was three boards wrapped in wire and a chair that was also wrapped in wire. Each guy got thrown through one of the boards. Havoc bled from his head more, but Mathis was bleeding from all over his body. In the end, Mathis got two chairs and set the last board on them. He went to suplex Havoc onto it, but Havoc reversed it and then hit Mathis with a Death Valley Driver through the board for the pin. Really good, fun to watch match!
Next was intermission while they cleaned up the ring. Then, Dave Crist came out and cut a heel promo and said that his opponent for the night, Greg Excellent wasn't there. He then went on to do the usual, "No one in the back can beat me!" kind of promo and then the Kenny Rodgers music blared over the P.A. This led to...
Dave Crist vs. Devon Moore
With the right booking, this could have been a great match....however, this wasn't a well-booked match. There really was nothing of real note in this match at all. Both guys did hit a few decent moves, but nothing stood out. In the end, Crist kicked Moore between the legs and for whatever reason, the ref D.Q.ed hit. I don't know that I've ever seen a D.Q. in CZW....but, okay....whatever.
2 out of 3 falls
Jr. Title match
Sami Callihan (c) vs. Drake Younger
The way this one worked was the first fall was a regular match, the second was a submission match and the third an ultra-violent rules match. The match started and within ten seconds (literally), Drake rolled up Sami and pinned him. The next fall was much longer with both guys putting each other in all kinds of crazy submission holds. The whole thing almost turned into an MMA fight. Sami tried to get Drake into his stretch muffler hold and Drake kept working over his arm. Drake got Sami into an arm bar and Sami twisted it around and got Drake's leg behind his neck and Drake tapped out. This brought us to the third, ultra-violent fall and this is where the match really took off. Sami jumped out of the ring and started grabbing chairs and throwing them into the ring. He then brought out a trash can and threw that in the ring as well. They brawled around the ring some and once they got back into the ring, the chairs went flying. Drake did a monster blade-job and was bleeding buckets. He was literally pouring blood all over the place. The match went back and forth with both guys hitting huge moves and get tons of near-falls. After a while, Drake pulled out a bag full of thumbtacks and poured them all over the ring. Each guy got dropped into the tacks and were covered in them. Drake hit Sami with a Drake's Landing, but Sami kicked out. Sami then hit Drake with a Drake's Landing and Drake kicked out at a one-count. Drake then hit a Drake's Landing onto one of the chairs and Sami kicked out again. In the end, Drake then hit a big sidewalk slam into the tacks and got the pin and is the new CZW Jr. Champion. Awesome, awesome match!
Main Event
CZW World Title match
Masada (c) vs. Micheal Elgin
I had VERY high hopes for this one to be a stiff, hard-hitting match. It was too. Both guys hit each other like bulls. Again, they brawled around the ring some. Once they got back in the ring, both guys hit each other hard and pulled off some big moves. Elgin especially looked awesome, as usual. The match had a strange ending though. Masada hit Elgin with some kind of a belly-to-belly suplex and held him down for a pin. It looked as though the ref was stalling his count for Elgin to kick out, but he didn't and the ref counted three. My guess is that Elgin landed hard on the back of his head and was knocked silly. He looked a bit cross-eyed when he got up. In the end, both guys hugged each other and showed each other respect. Not a completely terrible match, but nothing near what I expected.
In the end, this show wasn't the best ever, but I had to admit that other then first CZW show in Indiana (the one in Lafayette with J.C. Bailey and Brain Damage), this was the best show they've done in Indiana yet. However, the whole thing did have a bit of a "thrown together" feel to it. In some ways, it almost didn't even feel like a real CZW show. On the other hand though, it seemed as though that feeling is what made a few of the matches good. The best ones being Fox/Colon, Drake/Sami and Havoc/Mathis. Cole/Crist would have been a lot better if DJ hadn't stuck his nose into it. There wasn't any mention of them doing another show in Indiana, so we'll see what happens.
Pre-Show match
