There is NO way Ian shows up to this show. If he does he's asking for trouble. Be sure and keep us posted Dweller, as i wont be able to make it.

I know what you mean, Ike. I don't know if to wonder if Ian's smart enough NOT to show up or dumb enough TO show up. With or without a legit Ian beating, the show should be awesome and I'm looking forward to it. I even plan on taking the camera to this one and I'll be posting a report from it as soon as I can.

I'm not sure where to even begin with an overall feeling about last night's show, but I will say that the entire evening was a very emotional night. Many tears were shed and everyone who worked the show (including many names I NEVER expected to see at the show...much less work matches) worked their butts off to honor the memory of JC Bailey.
I got to the show about an hour before the doors opened, since it was a first-come-first-served seating arrangement. When I got there, there were already about 30 people waiting outside. I saw Patti (Ian Rotten's wife) walking around in the parking lot, so obviously, Ian was there...and wasn't a victim of Bull Pain yet. I saw many wrestlers milling around outside the building as we waited for the doors to open. At one point, Drake Younger came out and shook hands and personally thanked each of us for coming out to the show. Very classy move!
Once the doors opened, everyone that had lined up got in. At first, the crowd was thin and seemed as though it wasn't going to get any bigger. But as the start time got closer, they started showing up. In the end, I've heard reports of there being anywhere from 150-200 people. Those numbers seem about right.
At the start of the show, everyone came out and surrounded the ring. Danny Havoc and Devon Moore had to literally carry Drake Younger and Scotty Vortekz because both of them were so emotional that they could hardly walk. Mike Williams (owner of IPW) got on the mic and talked about what tonight's show meant and they gave JC a ten-bell salute. Drake was sobbing very loudly, as was Simon Sezz. By the tenth ring of the bell, just about every worker was crying. The whole moment was absolutely heart-wrenching.
Once everyone went back to the back, the room seemed to catch its breath and the matches started.
Six-Way Scramble Match Bobby Black vs. Dave Crist vs. Jake Crist vs. Hyzaya vs. American Kickboxer 2 vs. Terek the Legend As each worker came out, they all showed each other respect, but once the bell rang, that was all out the window. Everyone was working so hard during the match. Bodies were flying all over the place. Hyzaya looked to have taken a shot in the mouth early in the match and was legit hurt. The real show-stealers of the match though were Dave and Jake Crist, who are better known as The Irish Airborne. They were both pulling off high-flying moves that had to be seen to be believed...especially Dave Crist. He's a thingyy little guy, but he's sure got the skills to back it up. At one point, the Crist brothers faced off against one another and went at it. After they did an exchange, Terek the Legend and Bobby Black were in the ring and Terek hit Black with a nasty looking suplex-style move (if I remember correctly) in which Black landed awkwardly on his head. Terek then pinned him for the win. After the match, everyone showed each other respect and the crowd went nuts. Absolutely awesome match!
(Sidenote: Hey MECW...you NEED to book The Irish Airbourne...put them into a match with Zero Gravity and you've got yourself Match of the Year!)
Max Mizery vs. Simon Sezz I really have no idea who Mizery is, but he was announced as being from Bardstown, KY, so he must have been a friend of JC's who worked for Joe's BBW Wrestling. He was another guy who was crying hard during the ten-bell salute. Sezz came out and was still crying his eyes out. The match itself wasn't anything special, but both guys worked very hard and VERY stiff. In the end, Simon got the win and as he pinned Mizery, he just laid on top of him and loudly sobbed. When Mizery got to his feet, both men hugged each other and just cried. Another extremely emotional moment!
Vito Thomaselli vs. Joseph Schwartz At the start of the match, Schwartz got on the mic and said that instead of everyone yelling "Hey!" during the match, he wanted us to all yell "BAM!" for JC...and we all did! The match itself wasn't that great. There were a lot of botches and miscues. Vito tried to "heel it up", which came off as a bit awkward, considering the emotions everyone seemed to be feeling. Both guys worked hard and did pull off some pretty stiff moves. In the end, Vito got the win with a quick roll-up.
Diablo & Jason Pennington vs. Mickie Knuckles & Brandon Prophet I had seen Prophet out in the parking lot before the show and over-heard that he was going to work a match, but seeing him in there with Mickie was surreal. Diablo and Pennington were two more BBW guys, I'm guessing. Mickie kind of had this weird, 1980's cyber-punk thing going on...complete with green eye make-up and everything. Anyway, the match started off with Prophet pulling various weapons out of his ring gear and Mickie screaming, "We're babyfaces! We don't use weapons!" It was obvious that she's been spending a lot of time with Tracy Smothers lately. Anyway, once all of that settled down, Mickie worked most of the match while Prophet refused to tag her. Diablo looked pretty decent, but Pennington was horrible. He tried to pull off this over-the-top-rope leg drop and legit injured himself and pretty much just laid on the ring apron the rest of the match. Prophet still wouldn't tag into the match when all of a sudden, "A Bullet with My Name On It" started playing and out came BRAIN DAMAGE!!!!! Man, I marked out like white trash at a Hulk Hogan match! Damage grabbed Prophet and punched his teeth down his throat. He then got into the ring and laid out Diablo and tried to lay out Pennington, although he wasn't moving. Mickie then pinned Diablo. Damage then jumped back out of the ring and grabbed Prophet, which led to....
Brain Damage vs. Brandon Prophet This wasn't so much a wrestling match as much as a "let's watch Brandon Prophet get the ever-loving dogsh*t beaten out of him" match. I literally said to myself, "Am I really watching Brain Damage beat the crap out of Brandon Prophet in Indianapolis???" It was surreal! Prophet was bleeding early and man, he was bleeding buckets of blood! They fought in front of me and there was literally blood EVERYWHERE!!!! The crowd was going nuts and my inner blood-mark was doing back-flips! I was so into the whole thing that I didn't even notice that I had blood drops all over my shoes and had just rubbed my arm in blood that was all over the top of the guardrail. At one point, Damage started head-butting Prophet all around the ring and it was absolutely SICK!!!! Damage was busted open from it. He finally threw Prophet back into the ring, hit his package piledriver on him and pinned him. Sure, it wasn't much of a wrestling match, but it sure was a fun beat-down.
After the match, I went to wash the blood off my arms and found out that someone had stuffed the toilet. Wow...blood everywhere, Brain Damage beating the crap out of someone and an over-flowing toilet. How did I end up in south Philly at the ECW arena?? I didn't think I was suppose to go back there until December!
Sami Callihan vs. Toby Klein The crew wasn't even done cleaning up the blood before Sami made his way to the ring. Toby came out and chased them off. It was cool to see Klein again, since he's pretty much semi-retired these days. He's not in the best shape though. He didn't look horrible, but he has gained a bit of weight. There really wasn't anything special that happened during the match. I think I spent most of the match checking to see how much more blood I had on myself. Ha ha!!! Anyway, both guys worked hard and pulled off a lot of stiff moves. The match was short and in the end, I'm not sure how, but Sami got the pin.
Next was intermission. A lot of the guys were milling around with the fans, taking pictures and signing autographs. I talked a little with Brain Damage and got a picture with him. Believe it or not, he's a super-nice guy when he's not in his "ultraviolent terminator" mode. It is kind of odd to see him joking around with little kids though.
American Kickboxer vs. Apollo Starr (w/Rodney Rush) I saw AKB outside before the show and noticed that he was wearing wrestling boots, but I never expected that he'd actually wrestle, since the time I saw him was at KOTDM and the guy could hardly walk. Before the match, he got on the mic and said that it had been a while since he last wrestled but he was going to do this for JC...and he did! He moved around really good too! Granted, he didn't pull off any insane high-flying moves, but he didn't seem to show many signs of how broken down his body really is either. The match wasn't great, but it certainly wasn't horrible either. In the end, Kickboxer got the win. After the match, Hyzaya got into in the ring and talked Starr into shaking AKB's hand and everyone was shown great respect.
Next, Devon Moore came out and got on the mic. He said that he's injured with a staff infection in his arm and that he couldn't work, but he was going to be the ref in the next match.
Ian Rotten vs. Simon Sezz Ian came out first (and I was fighting the urge to start a "GAS MONEY!!" chant...if we had been in Philly, it would have happened, FOR SURE!!!)) and they made it seem as though no one knew who was going to wrestle him. Then, Simon Sezz came back out. Ian got on the mic and talked about how back in 2003, JC and Simon were both two little boys trying to make it in the business and how JC proved to him that he was a man and tonight was Simon's chance to prove it too....typical Ian speech that we've all heard a million times...it's just so hard to be respectful of that guy after what he did at JC's funeral. Anyway, the match we VERY stiff and EXTREMELY brutal! In some ways, it almost reminded me of that match Ian did with Chris Hero in Dayton, Ohio in front of about 15 people. At one point, they brawled on the outside, right next to me, on some metal bleachers. Simon suplexed Ian on the back of the bleachers and them climbed up on top and did a nasty leg-drop, while screaming "BAM!!" Ian's eyes were literally crossing after that move. It was sick! They made their way back to the ring and Ian set up the ring steps on their side, right in front of Joe Bailey. Bailey started screaming, "THAT'S ENOUGH!!!" as Ian powerbombed Simon onto the steps. I thought something insane was about to go down. Ian then threw Simon back into the ring and went for a DDT, but Simon reversed it and got the quick pin. After the match, Ian quickly went back to the back and Simon looked as though he could hardly move. He rolled out of the ring and hugged Joe Bailey. Then, some people down the row from me lifted the guardrail and Vickie (JC's mother) walked to the ring and hugged Simon. They were both sobbing their eyes out as they hugged each other for what seemed like forever. Another absolutely heart-wrenching moment!
Bull Pain vs. Dave Davidson vs. Jesse Owens
This match was nothing but a pure Bull Pain beat down. Davidson and Owens tried to double-team Bull but in the end, he pretty much just beat the crap out of both of them and then pinned Davidson (I think). After the match, Bull grabbed his bat and Owens and Davidson both rolled out of the ring. Bull then fell to his knees in the middle of the ring and pointed to the sky.
Clifton Crunk vs. Nate Webb Nate came out to his full-on "Teenage Dirtbag" intro, which is always fun and always gets a crowd pumped up. Nate looked pretty good, but by the end of the song, he looked like he was pretty worn out. Him and Crunk both got the crowd to do VERY loud "JC BAILEY!!" chants. The match wasn't much. It was pretty obvious that Webb doesn't wrestle much these days, but in the end, he did do this insane back-flip move with Crunk off the top rope and got the pin.
Danny Havoc vs. Jon Moxley This was one of the matches I was most looking forward to seeing and considering how much heart and soul everyone else was putting into their matches, I knew this was going to be a good one...and it was! Havoc went old-school and came out to "Hungry Like the Wolf" (I guess GG Allin music would have been a bit un-appropriate) and Moxley came out to "The Immigrant Song". Once the match started, the fight was on and both guys worked VERY hard. The thing about Danny Havoc is he's only thought of as a "blood and guts" deathmatch guy, but when it comes down to it, that dude can really mix it up and put on a good, stiff match!!! Sadly though, he'll never get credit for that. The match was pure, stiff, back and forth action! They brawled around the ring and threw each other into the guardrails and the ringposts. Mox was putting Havoc into all kinds of nasty-looking submission moves and bending and stretching him in all kinds of ways. Chairs were used and they were suplexing each other onto them and hitting each other with them. In the end, Moxley hit Havoc with the face-plant move onto a "Cation! Wet floor!" sign that was just plain SICK!!! The sign was sitting up and Havoc's face hit the top of it, breaking it in half. Moxley got the pin and when Havoc got up, he was cut right above his right eyebrow where he had hit the sign. Awesome match!
Before the main event, Mike Williams came out and presented Joe Bailey with almost $2300 that was raised by the evening.
Main Event Tables, Ladders and Chairs Drake Younger vs. Scotty Vortekz The "tables" they were using were actually doors. American Kickboxer 2 came out with Scotty and Hyzaya came out with Younger. The match was pure, stiff, brutal fun. Both guys were pulling off insanely brutal moves. Scotty then hit Drake with one of the ladders and Drake was busted open. Once Drake hit Scotty with one, he was busted open too and both guys were bleeding heavily. As the match went on, guys from the back started moving towards ringside until finally, everyone was around the ring. That's when the match went into "overdrive". They were pulling off move after move on each other that should have killed either one of them. At one point, Scotty set up two chairs and placed a ladder across them, then laid Drake onto the ladder. He then got a much higher ladder and climbed almost to the rafters and did a JC-inspired double-stomp. Everyone in the building cringed! It was NASTY....and Drake kicked out!!! Scotty then set up one of the doors onto the chairs and laid Drake on that. He climbed the ladder, but Drake jumped up and ran up the ladder too and suplexed Scotty from what seemed like a mile in the air through the door...and Scotty kicked out! The whole building was going INSANE!!!!!! Next, Drake climbed to the top rope and Scotty literally THREW the other door at Drake's head. He then set it on the chairs and climbed the ropes with Drake and pulled a picture-perfect blue thunder driver....AND THE DOOR DIDN'T BREAK!!!!!!!!! Drake kicked out again and then Scotty set the door back on the chairs and pulled off another move (at this point, I was in such shock that I don't even remember what he did) and put Drake through the door and got the pin. I can't even put into words how awesome this match was. When the DVD comes out, it'll be worth having JUST for this match!!!
After the match, Drake got on the mic and thanked everyone for coming out and led us in one more MASSIVE "JC BAILEY!!!" chant. Drake broke down and sobbed again. He then asked everyone to get into the ring and they did a MASSIVE, group "BAM!!!!" Drake then climbed up on the ropes and did a Sabu-esque point to the sky. He jumped down and climbed up on the guardrail and the chair where I was sitting (basically climbing on top of me! Ha ha!!) and screamed, "COME ON!!!! JC BAILEY!!!" I helped him down and said, "Man, that was awesome!" He said, "Thanks brother!"
On my way out, Joe Bailey was at the door and was shaking hands and personally thanking everyone as they left.
It was such an amazing, emotional night that I'm so happy and proud to have been a part of. The whole show ran for nearly 4 and a half hours and I then had to drive 3 more back to Evansville....and all this after working for about 6 before that and driving 2 to Indy from Vincennes. It was a LONG day, but well worth it!
By the way too, I took over 150 pictures from the show and I'll post them as soon as I can!

During some of the moments with some of the "old school" guys that used to work in CCW (AKB, Tarek, Hyzaya, Prophet, Sezz), I thought to myself that it would have been cool if the O'Boys had been there. Especially since you guys know way more about those guys then I do. I will say that the DVD of the show should be WELL worth picking up. Mike Williams said that the only way to get it will be through Smart Mark Video and that all of the money from it will go to the Bailey family. SMV themselves weren't there to film it. It was the usual IPW crew and I'm not really sure how much of the personal, emotional moments they captured. I'll post a link on the boards once it comes out.
From what I'm hearing of the Bull Pain/Ian Rotten situation, Bull is saying that he didn't feel as though last night was the right time or place to settle things. I don't know...by the time Ian runs another KOTDM, Bull will probably be in it....Ha ha!!! I did notice that Bull wasn't at ringside during the Drake/Scotty match, I don't think he was anyway, unless I just missed him.

SMV has finally released the DVD of the JC Bailey Memorial Show. They've also added the one that Madman Pondo did in West Virginia, although I've heard that was a horrible show. He had a great line up of talent that was suppose to be at that show and almost none of them actually made it. There's also a demo DVD that SMV made in 2005 of some of JC's CZW matches. Anyway, the Indianapolis show is well worth seeing. The Drake Younger vs. Scotty Vortekz TLC match was awesome...one of the best live matches I've seen all year. www.smartmarkvideo.com/JC-Bailey-Tribute-Shows-DVD/

As if the loss of J.C. Bailey wasn't tragic enough it was reported this morning that his mother Vicki Bailey passed away last night. Prayers be with the Bailey family once again.

I was floored when I found out J.C. had passed. I had fallen out if the wrestling "world" but happened across an article. I had the chance to meet and chill with him a couple of times. My significant other at the time was training thru IWA and I tagged along in a trip or two. He was super nice and funny. I liked him right away! It's sad to hear that someone so talented and sweet could be gone. I actually bought a copy of the memorial show and am now planning on getting to some shows myself. God bless J.C. Bailey and his family.
