As I always say, I'm going to try to keep this as brief as possible....but we all know how far that'll go. Ha ha!!
I went into tonight's show with somewhat higher hopes then I usually have for a CCW show, since it seems as though CCW has been on an up-swing lately. Here's what happened:
The show started off with Holly Cosby coming out with an "announcement". She then announced that Adam Gooch was going to have to start at the bottom and work his way back up to get a title match with BJ Whitmer. Gooch came out dressed in his street clothes and looking like a banker or real estate agent. He got into Holly's face and said he wanted a rematch....yadda, yadda.....Then, Remi Wilkins came out. At first, people were cheering for him but then he cut a heel promo putting down Evansville. He then said that he was going to make an impact with his first CCW match and win the title from Whitmer. Whitmer came out and said that if he wanted a title match, he could have one. Gooch got p*ssed off and then Holly told him that he was going to have a match right now, which led to.....
Adam Gooch vs. Skyler
First of all, it was nice to see Dave Matthews as the ref, since last time I went to a CCW show, he was in the hospital. Anyway, Skyler is the kid that Bull Pain beat down that one time...I never knew his name. Anyway, this match was nothing special at all. Gooch just pretty much beat the crap out of him, but at least he didn't add racial slurs in the process. Gooch won with a powerbomb and then hit Skyler with a German suplex after the match.
Matt Atreya vs. Smokey C
Atreya came out and was really "heeling it up". This was my first time seeing Smokey in person. I just remember seeing him on DVD in one of those horrible Brink of Death tournaments. He gave the 3 or 4 Juggalos in the crowd a chance to do their "Woo woo!" and "Family!" chants. Atreya looked decent, but Smokey was horrible. He was botching moves right and left. It got to the point that every time he'd climb to the top rope, I cringed before he even did anything. He did hit one VERY stiff and nasty frog splash which looked dangerous. It looked as though both guys were legit hurt from that move. The match ended with Smokey hitting a double-stomp off the top rope and getting the pin. I have a feeling that wherever he is, JC Bailey was shaking his head....RIP JC!!!
Hyzaya vs. Dre Jacobs
This is where the show started taking a turn for the better. Dre came out and again was really "heeling it up". Hyzaya was way over with the crowd! The match started kind of slow, but built up. Both guys worked really well and as always, Hyzaya looked great. Hyzaya really played to the crowd when he had Dre in an armbar by asking certain people if Dre had said anything bad to them and then punching him for it. In the end, Hyzaya had Dre down and climbed to the top rope, but Dre pushed the ref into the ropes, Hyzaya was crotched and Dre then pulled him down and hit him in the face with his knee and got the pin. Very solid match!
James Reeves vs. Lonestar
This match was nothing but a pure beat-down. Reeves never even got a chance to show anything other then a couple of weak strikes. Star ended the match by hitting a sit-out tiger driver on him and getting the pin.
Drew Haskins & LT Falk vs. Dave Crist & Micus Silva
This match was a pure, old school tag match in the vain of The Midnight Express vs. The Rock and Roll Express only the moves were a lot quicker and more modern. All four guys played their parts very well. Falk and Haskins were a perfect heel team doing all the standard heel tactics as they worked over Silva, who played the "Ricky Morton" role perfectly. Crist was on the outside like a caged animal, jumping around and working up the crowd. Though there was never a "hot tag", Crist did get in the ring and worked over both Haskins and Falk, but then, Silva accidentally superkicked Crist. Haskins and Falk then hit a "London Bridge" style neckbreaker on Silva and Haskins pinned him. After the match, Crist and Silva argued and Silva teased a heel turn, but in the end, both guys just left and nothing else happened.
Loser Gets Tared and Feathered
2 Tuff Tony vs. JP Lightning w/Scarlett
From one "Memphis" style match right into another. Is it just me or is Tony starting to look like Lonestar??? JP and Scarlett were really great as heels. The match started off VERY slow with TONS of stalling, but once things got going, Tony actually worked harder than I've seen him work in quite some time. In the end, Jeff the Ref (whatever his last name is) took a really nasty bump when Tony swung JP around. Scarlett then jumped up and wrapped a chain around her fist and hit Tony really hard with it. She then took Jeff's lifeless hand and counted three with it. Scarlett got the tar and feathers, but Dave Matthews then came out and re-started the match. Tony quickly rolled JP up and pinned him. JP then beat down Tony and him and Scarlett were still going to tar and feather him, but Tony grabbed them and ran their heads together. He then poured the tar on Scarlett and dumped the feathers on her. They were multi-colored too....she looked like the Gobbledy Gooker (Tell me I ain't old school!!!! HA HA!!!)
CCW title match
BJ Whitmer w/the other Cosby kid vs. Remi Wilkins
There wasn't really much to really say about this match. Wilkins looked almost exactly like a younger version of Apollo Starr. He's got potential to be good, but the fact that he "heeled it up" after every move he did got real old real fast. The match was so slow and never really took off. Once Whitmer got control, the match was a little more exciting. In the end, Whitmer made Wilkins tap out to a "key lock" style submission hold. All in all, not a great match, but nothing special either.
Main Event
Necro Butcher w/ Alister Fear vs. Danny Havoc w/ Mr. Wayne
Havoc came out to almost no reaction....except from me, of course....and he acknowledged me too. Ha ha!! It was kind of odd to see him playing a sort of heel. I think the only other time I've ever seen him as a heel was back about 5 or 6 years ago when he was still a skinny kid with a goofy afro that liked to bleed a lot. As for Necro, this may come as a shocker, but he seemed REALLY baked! Danny attacked him as he came into the ring, but Necro fought back. The action quickly went outside the ring and Necro threw Danny into the concession area. He then threw a heavy trash can which bounced off Havoc's head. Someone yelled "Take it outside!" and so Necro did, but first, they fought some in the lobby. Once outside they did almost nothing. Necro went into a Karate Kid pose and Danny looked confused. Necro then kicked him. Necro then crotched him on the hand rail and then ran him into one of the doors and then they went back inside and actually ended up back in the ring. There was a little more brawling outside the ring and Necro got cut. He bladed pretty deep and was dripping blood all over the place. Necro ended up throwing a chair into the ring and climbed up to the top rope with it. Mr. Wayne then grabbed his foot and Necro dropped the chair. Alister then attacked Wayne. Then, Necro pulled off the sloppiest crossbody block I think I've ever seen and got the pin.
That was it! I'm guessing the original idea was that the main event was to be Necro and Pondo vs. Danny and Drake Younger, which would have been a LOT better. Besides the fact that the main event was so short, it was obvious that it's Pondo who can really work a crowd and he was missed from that match.
In the end, I can't say there was anything on the show that stood out out as terrible, HOWEVER.....I also can't say that anything stood out as great either. It was a fairly solid show and certainly better than some CCW shows I've seen in the past.
